Piercings take time to heal; stick to your aftercare, patience is key and if you have any concerns contact us
Irritation and infection are not the same thing, if you suspect an infection see a doctor right away
-
Everyone heals differently, typically swelling should be gone by 6-8 weeks if you are following correct aftercare.
-
Your piercer will select jewellery size to allow for swelling. After 6-8 weeks when swelling subsides it is important for you to downsize jewellery as it can cause irritation and possibly affect healing. It is recommended for a professional piercer to change your jewellery to ensure it is done correctly.
-
We recommend avoiding swimming while your piercing is healing as bodies of water can contain bacteria which can lead to infection.
-
Irritated- swelling, crusties, bump/scab on piercing, redness, tenderness is all normal for the initial 6-8 weeks.
Infected- major swelling, throbbing, heat, thick yellow or green pus, pain beyond tenderness, fever or chills (if these symptoms occur see a doctor right away)
Rejecting- the piercing moves from its original positioning, the skin between the entry and exit holes become thin, shiny or translucent, the jewellery hangs or feels loose, more of the jewellery or bar becomes visible, constant irritation- sore, red, flaky, itchy
-
Clean with sterile saline only then rinse your mouth with water and spit out
Get a new toothbrush to reduce bacteria
Only use alcohol free mouthwash (alcohol can disrupt the balance of bacteria leading to oral thrush)
Things to avoid while healing
Alcohol (alcohol can disrupt the balance of bacteria leading to oral thrush)
Dairy (can increase bacteria)
Teeth whitening (products can be harsh)
Smoking/ vaping ( chemicals can cause irritation
-
